This workshop is designed for teachers who want to deepen their understanding of the concrete–representational–abstract (CRA) progression in grades 3-5, and explore practical ways to make elementary mathematics more concrete, accessible, and engaging for students.

OBJECTIVES

• Understand the CRA Framework: Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the concrete–representational–abstract progression and its role in fostering conceptual understanding in elementary mathematics.
• Integrate Manipulatives and Visuals: Teachers will identify and utilize appropriate concrete tools (base-ten blocks, fraction strips, ten-frames, etc.) and representational aids (e.g., diagrams, models) to facilitate the transition to abstract thinking.
• Collaborate and Share Best Practices: Participants will engage in collaborative activities to share and refine CRA-based lesson ideas and resources for elementary math instruction.
