Support student engagement and persistence through evidence-based mentoring and relationship building.

Check & Connect® is an evidence-based mentoring and engagement intervention designed to support K-12 students who show early signs of disengagement from school and are at risk of dropping out. In the model, a trained adult mentor regularly checks key data such as attendance, behavior, and grades, then connects with students and families through relationship building, problem solving, and coordinated support. Check & Connect® is recognized as the only program found to have positive effects on keeping students in school.

OBJECTIVES

• Training on the core components and practices of the Check & Connect® model.
• Strategies for relationship building, problem solving, and student support.
• Tools for monitoring student data and documenting interventions.
• Resources to help mentors implement the model with fidelity.
• Support improved student engagement, persistence, and progress toward graduation.
• Use attendance, behavior, and academic data to identify and address barriers to success.
